A “Glue Gun” That Prints Bone: New Tool Heals Fractures in Real Time

Scientists have introduced a novel way to fix broken bones using a modified glue gun that 3D-prints biodegradable bone material right onto the fracture site. This “in situ printing” approach eliminates the need for pre-made implants and lets surgeons adjust shape, angle, and depth in real time to match complex bone geometry.

The graft material combines hydroxyapatite and polycaprolactone, plus embedded antibiotics to reduce infection risk. Early tests in rabbits showed improved regeneration and no signs of necrosis — a promising step toward applying the method in human surgeries.
