The long-anticipated meeting between Mike Tyson and Floyd Mayweather Jr. is finally happening — and it’s not just going to be for glory or accolades. These two legendary boxers have officially agreed to an exhibition match on April 25, 2020, in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), almost 52 years after they both participated in another historic fight there — the Rumble in the Jungle.
Even though this fight will be an exhibition, meaning it will not go in either fighter’s professional record, it will be watched by millions around the world because both of these men are still among the most well-known fighters in boxing’s history. Tyson is 59 years old, and last fought professionally against Jake Paul in 2024; Mayweather is 48 years old and did not last compete as a professional when he defeated Conor McGregor on August 26, 2017. So, depending on the pay-per-view prices per household (most likely), this event will be highly touted throughout the world and will attract a lot of attention. So, we can expect many more advertisements for this event as it gets closer in time.
The fight itself is being promoted by CSI Sports/Fight Sports. They are doing this to promote the great boxing history that Africa has produced, and also the hopes of promoting boxing across Africa. The location for this fight makes it very symbolic due to the large number of boxing events held in this location over the years.
